Algebra 1 Grading Policy and Syllabus
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Welcome to Algebra I. I hope you have a very successful year. This course is designed to complement and expand the mathematical content and concepts of your previous math experiences. Students who master Algebra I will gain experience with algebraic solutions of problems in various content areas, including graphing and solving linear equations, linear systems, exponents, factoring, quadratic equations, and rational equations.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:The following supplies are needed for this class and should be brought to class every day:
GRADING POLICY:
Classwork/Homework: 10%
Formative/Summative Assessments: 90%
Assessments:
There will be 2-4 formative assessments per unit. These formative assessments are designed to check your understanding of the content during the learning process. At the conclusion of every unit there will be a summative assessment that will cover all the material in the unit. If a student demonstrates that they have learned the content by the end of the unit by posting a higher grade on the summative assessment, their formative assessment grades will be changed to the higher grade.
Grading Scale:
A 90%-100%
B 80-89%
C 70-79%
F 69% and below
* A grade can be raised if a student scores proficient or advanced on the Algebra 1 state test.
Description of Grades:
In order to receive an “A” grade in Algebra I a student must be able to demonstrate mastery of all the essential standards. In addition to obtaining mastery of the content, the student will turn in their work on time and completed.
In order to receive a “B” grade in Algebra I a student must be able to demonstrate proficiency in all of the essential standards. In addition to obtaining proficiency of the content, the student will turn in their work on time and completed.
In order to receive a “C” grade in Algebra I a student must be proficient in the essential standards. They must also complete the majority of their class work and homework.
